Since Stijn Donckers (22) was little, aviation has been his great passion. Pursuing a study within this field was therefore a logical choice.
He recently graduated with honors from the Aviation Engineering program at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Willing to contribute to the new era in aviation, he developed a strong interest for sustainability and innovation. His bachelor thesis was written for Aruba Airport, researching technical characteristics and operational challenges of electric flight operations between the ABC-islands. This study revealed valuable insights and was nominated for the thesis prize of the Dutch Air- and Aerospace Foundation. In his free time he enjoys nature, traveling, flying sailplanes and spending time with friends and family.
The Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports (DCCA) is organizing the 1stInternational Sustainable Air Transportation event called “A Flight To The Future” in Aruba in November 2022. A one-week event filled with presentations, panel discussion, masterclasses and test flight demonstrations with the Pipistrel Velis Electro, the first certified electric aircraft, all with the purpose of sharing knowledge, creating dialogue on the future of aviation and on interisland connectivity in the Dutch Caribbean.
