Gerben Broekema has over 25 years of aviation industry experience with a deep expertise in strategy, policy/regulation and international investments/partnerships. Based in the Amsterdam area, he serves airports, airlines, governments and investors around the world both directly as well as in a role of external advisor to leading global consulting organisations.
Before starting his own advisory practice in 2017, Gerben spent 10 years at Royal Schiphol Group most recently as their Head of Group Strategy and International Development. In this role he led, amongst others, the development of the Group 5-year Strategic Plan as well as the development of new international airport investments and partnerships. Prior to that, he acted as Chairman of the Programme Management Office managing the industrial cooperation between Schiphol Group, Groupe ADP and Incheon International Airport. Before joining Schiphol, he was as a dedicated aviation industry project manager and expert at McKinsey&Company serving leading airline clients in all major geographies.
Holding a Master’s degree in Economic Geography/Transportation Economics from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, Gerben has a particular interest in contributing to aviation policy discussions such as growth of aviation, airport privatization and the public interest with regard to aviation.
The Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports (DCCA) is organizing the 1stInternational Sustainable Air Transportation event called “A Flight To The Future” in Aruba in November 2022. A one-week event filled with presentations, panel discussion, masterclasses and test flight demonstrations with the Pipistrel Velis Electro, the first certified electric aircraft, all with the purpose of sharing knowledge, creating dialogue on the future of aviation and on interisland connectivity in the Dutch Caribbean.
